recent death of our mother,Mrs.Laura Elizabeth Max CODY.

CHRISTIAN WOMAN BURIED AT SHILOH--Mrs.Laura Elizabeth Max CODY,63,
died at her home near Garland Sunday,July 17th.Funeral services
were conducted in the Garland Methodist Church Sunday afternoon
by Rev.S B MORRISON,pastor,assisted by Rev.W C TARP,pastor of the
Garland Baptist Church,interment occurred in Shiloh cemetery.
Mrs.CODY was born September 2nd,1868,in this county. She married
in 1888 to Taylor MONTGOMERY,to this union three children were
born. Mr.MONTGOMERY died in 1892.On November 24th,1895, she
married W T CODY,to this union three children being born also.
Mr.CODY preceeded her to the grave by 12 years. Surviving are
three daughters,Mrs.Willie LITTLE,Mrs.Hazelle GRIFFIN and
Mrs.Lille CANNON; one son, Bryan CODY and 13 grandchildren.

in 1944. He was in the air force and was on a training mission
before being sent overseas and 2 planes collided in a fog and
he was killed.

MRS. HAZELLA C. GRIFFIN, 80, of 3917 Twinmont, widow of David Robert
Griffin, died yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital. Services will be at
11 a.m. tomorrow at Maley Funeral Home in Covington, Tenn., with
burial in Munford (Tenn.) Cemetery. She leaves three daughters,
Mrs. Lois Holland and Mrs. Bobbie Marciszewski, both of Memphis, and
Mrs. Ruby Knight of Slayden, Miss.; three sons, R.B. Griffin and
Troy Griffin, both of Birmingham, and Morris Griffin of Covington,
and a brother, Bryson Cody of Garland, Tenn.

Notes for DAVID ROBERT GRIFFIN:
Memphis Commercial Appeal - Saturday Dec. 8, 1945 - David Robert Griffin
of 169 Jackson Ave. was found dead in the North Memphis Reservoir on Main
between Greenlaw and Mill at 4:30 PM yesterday. Mr. Griffin was reported
missing three days ago. The death is listed as a simple "drowning" but
inspector Pete Wiebenga, Chief of the Homicide Bureau and Deputy
Inspectors Larry Fox and James Hillin were continuing there investigation
last night with the questioning of several witnesses.
Inspector Wiebenga said last night that their investigation had disclosed
no evidence of foul play. An autopsy will be performed at John Gaston
Hospital. Mr. Griffin, which detectives estimated had been in the water
48 hours was pronounced dead at 5:00PM at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mr. Griffin formerly was an employee of Fisher Memphis Aircraft Division.
He moved to Memphis three years ago from Covington, Tenn.
Personal note by family: When he was found, his wallet was missing. The
case was left unsolved.
