Unaware of the deep hole Buford fell in and Glen jumped in to save him, but was pulled under while Buford was fighting to get out. Charles Curtis, Glen's younger brother had seen them, but thought they were playing. Charles told his older brother Earnest, and Earnest jumped in nearly drowning, but managed to pull the boy's out.
